Beating the Boomer Bust Articles
First published on Awake at 2 o’clock?, John F. Dini’s weekly column on business ownership, these compelling and insightful articles on Baby Boomers formed the backbone of his eBook, Beating the Boomer Bust. The collection focuses on the unique challenges facing the business community due to the large population of retiring Baby Boomer business owners. Small business owners in America are ignoring a tidal wave of change that will leave a few small businesses untouched while wiping many others from the face of the planet.

In the United States, Baby Boomers number almost 77 million and account for about 25% of the population. They are the largest, healthiest, wealthiest, most acquisitive and competitive generation in American History. Make no mistake about the impact that they have had, not only on small business but on every phase of life as they passed through it.
The retirement of two-thirds of America’s small company owners will intersect with a generation that is much smaller, less entrepreneurial, and with a variety of career options they find more appealing than business ownership. What will happen when the Baby Boomers pass the baton as they step down from active productivity?

Baby Boomers Changed History
Baby Boomers were born during the demographic Post-World War II baby boom, recognized as 1945 to 1965. They redefined traditional values and are widely associated with privilege because most grew up in a time of affluence. As a group, they were amongst the first to grow up genuinely expecting the world to improve with time. By the sheer force of its numbers, the boomers are an anomaly, a demographic bulge which has remodeled each aspect of society as it has passed through it.
